The Bugleverse’s designated credentialed antagonist: a former Block / Cash App executive — “Jack Dorsey’s right hand man,” in Richard Greaser‘s framing1 — who lost the weight, lost the job, and re-emerged as a Substack essayist styling himself a “reluctant Cassandra” narrating the fourth turning to paying subscribers. He is the man the show sat across a table from once and has never stopped debating since.

He is never a guest. He is a foil — the one recurring outsider the Bugle uses as a fixed reference point, whether as the villain of the debate that put the podcast on the map, the benchmark for unproductive grouchiness, or a literal unit of measurement for how much a given troll would upset him. By 2026 the show has stopped arguing with his ideas and simply invokes his name.

First contact: White Dudes for Harris (2024)

Brock enters the record in October 2024 as a diagnosis. Rod, told a rumor that “Mike Brock is the leader of white guys for Harris,”2 blames the politics on Ozempic — seventy to eighty pounds lost with zero muscle mass — and notes the man no longer works for Cash App or Block. The verdict is put more bluntly a few cues later: “I think Ozapic made him retarded.”2 He is filed with the Cypherpunks for Kamala Harris wing and Dennis Porter as a specimen of the statist Bitcoiner.

A month later he is already a byword for company one does not keep. Accused by a booster of secretly being a White Dude for Harris, Greaser rules it impossible: to be one would mean “hang out with Terrence and Mike Brock in the same room.”3 The following winter Rod casts him and Pledditor as the Muppets’ balcony hecklers at The Bugles — Statler and Waldorf, “sitting up in the balcony” counting impeachable offenses4 — the first sketch of the pair as professional disapprovers.

The debate (April 2025)

The relationship’s founding event is the Richard Greaser Vs. Mike Brock Debate. Its origin, by Greaser’s own account, is petty: he told Brock he “didn’t have a valid opinion because he didn’t listen to forty hours of Bitcoin podcast a week. And that upset him on Twitter,”5 and Brock challenged him to settle it live. The debate ran on Brock’s own new format, Counterpoint — “my first episode of of Counterpoint, a live coherent series”6 — a challenge show run through his Substack, Notes From The Circus, on which Greaser was the inaugural guest. Greaser previewed the event with characteristic effort — he would “get my wife to set it up on my type writer before,” adding “I’m not entirely sure what we are debating.”

First contact set the tone. Brock arrived to discover his opponent masked and voice-modulated: “I wasn’t expecting you to be, in a mask and and and with the audio distorted.”7 Greaser’s reply — “Well, this is just me, dude” — is the canonical statement of his anonymity.

Brock came with a thesis, drawn from his essay Clear Thinking v Bitcoin Cult: maximalism had ceased to be a monetary argument and become “a secular cult. It has prophets. It has sacred texts. It has moral hierarchies,”8 with hyperbitcoinization as its eschatology. Greaser declined to meet it. Instead he cast the debate as fiction and assigned the parts — “I’m the hero of a Ayn Rand novel, and you’re the the villain of a Ayn Rand novel”9 — handing Brock the role of Ellsworth Toohey from The Fountainhead, which Brock accepted. The argument that most preoccupied Greaser was whether Brock could “judge the difference between an MPC and a sentient being”10 — the ASR’s “MPC” for NPC — a question he asked four times and Brock finally refused: “I don’t consider any human beings MPCs. That’s stupid.”

The one moment the bit met a real cost came over cigarettes. Greaser, whose supplement stack is “I smoke cigarettes. That’s what I do,”11 declared smoking good for you; Brock answered with his father — “it killed my father… my father was a chain smoker, and it destroyed his heart”12 — and Greaser rode straight past it into a claim that banning cigarettes had sent cancer rates “through the roof.” Elsewhere the mismatch was played for farce. Brock, who had promised he’d “methodically and rigorously deconstructed” the Austrian economists, begged for a serious critique and received one line: “Well, Austria’s Austria’s a pretty cool country.”13 He also broke and counted the running gag out loud — “I’ve heard you say this, like, 20 times now”14 — and lodged a grievance that the Bugle‘s own coverage had put him “in late stage Trump derangement syndrome,” which Greaser blamed on unnamed other writers.15 Greaser scored cleanly only once, springing a tipping-at-black-owned-restaurants trap Brock walked into whole: “if you tipped more, you’d be racist… I applaud you, Mike.”16 His final read on the whole mismatch was that he simply couldn’t look at Brock “and not see Corey Clipston” — the ASR’s Cory Klippsten, offered as a jab rather than a claim of shared history.17

The defrocking (April–August 2025)

The show declared victory for months. On Never Rest On Your Credentials Greaser crystallized the Randian frame into a self-mythology: Brock “was like an Ellsworth Toohey type character from the Fountainhead… and I I’m being the John Galt of journalism.”18 The credential was inflated to “one of the premier journalists in the world… Jack Dorsey’s right hand man,”1 so that his refusal to listen became a condemnation of Dorsey’s whole product line. Rod met Brock’s story about his father’s cancer with the 40 hours per week doctrine’s coldest line — “there’s a sovereign way to have cancer”19 — generalized the loss into a law ( Dave Smith beat “Douglas K. Murray” the same way, because Murray “rested on his credentials”20), and prescribed the cure: read Atlas Shrugged twice a year, which Greaser noted the unemployed Brock had ample time for.21 Fundamentals boosted 21,000 sats to canonize the creed — the future is 40HPW, and “overeducated influencers who refuse to do it will be vanquished”22 — and a booster christened Greaser “the great degreaser” for beating a man who was “like a two legged stool.”23

The debrief tour continued. Junseth reviewed the tape and ruled Brock wrong on a technicality of theology — “Bitcoiners don’t believe the world ends at hyperbitcoinization”24 because it is a beginning, not an end — while enjoying “the many times that you guys talked past each other.” On the Easter Special the debate was already settled canon, the type specimen of the expert who “just scoff[s] at you like Mike Brock did to me.”25 By August, Fundamentals could invoke “the Mike Brock defrocking”26 as a fixed benchmark against which a Greaser solo episode was measured, needing no explanation at all.

A unit of measurement

Through mid-2025 Brock detaches from the debate and becomes a reusable reference. The trucker-philosopher Haulin Sats disclaims all pretension by disclaiming him — “I’m no Mike Brock. The answer is that Bitcoin doesn’t care.”27 Jeremy Poley scores an RFK-legalizes-cigarettes fantasy purely by how much it would upset him — “Mike Brock kryptonite… a triple folded sandwich”28 — treating Brock as a quantity rather than a person. When a rumor breaks mid-livestream that “Mike Brock has been spotted at the Venetian,”29 the show’s instant response is an intervention plan: donate a copy of Atlas Shrugged (or Fountainhead, “acceptable as well”), have Greaser autograph it at Satirize the System, and deliver it to Brock.30 Fundamentals concedes the whole cigarettes-and-forty-hours prescription “is a troll. However, those things would probably benefit him greatly,”31 because Brock “doesn’t have enough entropy.”

He also becomes the benchmark grouch. Greaser and Rod repeatedly bracket Pledditor with Brock — Pledditor is “the gold standard of how to be unproductive,” and “Mike Brock is too”32 — but the two are split on redemption: Pledditor “still has his keys and cold stor[age]” and will be alright, whereas Brock is the one who gave up Bitcoin entirely.33 That is the charge that hardens into a verdict on Boomers Sacrificing to Moloch: crypto people don’t want to dismantle the Fed, they love it,34 and Brock “gave himself Bitcoin derangement syndrome, and now he is a soldier for the… sacrifice to Moloch. You hate to see it.”35

The reluctant Cassandra (2026)

The 2026 arc is Brock as the show’s designated case study in crashing out. His self-styling is the hook: Rod reports he “started calling himself a reluctant Cassandra”36 whose subscribers pay to have the fourth turning narrated to them, and Greaser introduces Paul Sports by the contrast — Brock only calls himself a reluctant Cassandra, whereas Sports actually is one.37 On Year In Review the debate is named a “tipping point” that put the podcast “in the spotlight big time,”38 and Greaser reports the state of the feud: “I’m still blocked by Mike Brock,”39 who never published the video and behaves as though it never happened. Greaser’s read on why Brock believes himself a great philosopher is that he “curate[s] people in his life that will glaze him”40 — later upgraded to a diagnosis of “ChatGPT psychosis,” a chatbot flattering him into a full disconnect from reality.41

The essays themselves become the target. Brock is invoked as the plebslop attention economy in one man — “how many people have died and Mike Brock hasn’t written an essay about them?”42 — and prescribed “more BitChat posts from Mike Brock and fewer essays about Forrest Gump.”43 His output is quantified at “77 essays this weekend,” announced with “I make no apologies for the intensity of the pros that I’m using,”44 and read as a man who “blames everybody but himself.”45 The show tracks his booking troubles too: he wanted to debate Peter McCormack, who “said, no. I’m not interested,”46 and McCormack is praised specifically for the way “he just turned his nose up to Mike Brock. Mike Brock was begging Peter to have him on his podcast.”47 He is slated for a Podkoff “Super Bowl” card against Curtis Yarvin.48

The arc peaks with his own turn to journalism. In June 2026 Brock “announced earlier this week that Donald Trump was dead,” claiming AI voices had been negotiating with Iran, and then walked it back49 — slotting him into the show’s roll of podcasters who found that being a credentialed journalist is harder than it looks, “similar to Nikko from Simply Bitcoin and Will Foxley.”50

The feed

If the transcripts are where the show argued with Brock, the Bugle’s X accounts are where it stopped arguing and started filing. Across roughly ninety posts split between @rodpalmerhodl, @GreaserRichard and @bitcoin_bugle, Brock is the wiki’s most-covered outsider — treated less as a person than as a standing beat.

The essay machine

The dominant thread is volume. Brock’s Substack output is reported as a weather system that never clears: Rod notes the man “saw his shadow today which means six more weeks of crash out essays,” and blames the supply on his antagonist — Trump, in Rod’s reading, “just guaranteed us a bountiful harvest of new mike brock essays.”

The essays are counted like ordnance — 1,000 pledged “to defeat Trump in Minnesota,” up to 5,000 “to stop Donald Trump from annexing” Greenland — and the Bugle‘s own headline fixes their invariant thesis: the man releases “Dozen New Essays Detailing Why Everyone Else Is to Blame.”

Rod dates the “essay era” by its precedent — before it, “roger ver wrote an entire book of crash out cope” — and stakes his own authority on sheer consumption.

The subject matter is catalogued with a straight face: an exclusive essay on Forrest Gump released free for Christmas, a blog piece “On Narcissism,” a resurfacing on Nostr “to glaze John Maynard Keynes,” and one entry that “glazes Dilbert but censures Dilbert’s creator, Scott Adams.” Henry notes the throughput is the joke — the position is downstream of the wordcount.

The self-glaze

The show’s second fixation is Brock’s relationship with his own reflection. The Bugle reports the surgical extreme of it — the subject is “having ribs removed so he can glaze himself” — and files the readership problem it creates in the same deadpan wire style.

Rod reduces the whole corpus to two recurring subjects: “1. how much smarter he is than everyone else 2. how brave he is.” Greaser, refusing the cheap insult, performs an upgrade the Bugle then wields as if it were a masthead credential — promoting “Sophisticated Philosopher Mike Brock” and “Sophisticated Blogger Mike Brock” with no wink at all.

Crashing out to save democracy

The political register is the same crash-out under a different flag. The TDS first surfaces as a health bulletin — “good news. mike brock is now seeing doctors about his tds” — and Rod locates the ideology precisely by cross-breeding two of the show’s enemies.

The Bugle stages the crash-out as live theatre — “Mike Brock is crashing out to save Democracy. Coming to Las Vegas April 28th LIVE,” which corroborates the in-transcript Venetian sighting — and catalogues the platform: a 10,000-word rebuke of a Trump post, condemnations of an ICE shooting and of Dennis Porter‘s insufficient announcements, and a thesis reducible to one Bugle headline.

The same feud fuels his Maxi Madness run — the Bugle reports him “upset about the results” — and the promised Vegas card against Yarvin, which Greaser calls before the bell.

Journalist vs. blogger

The oldest grievance — the credential — survives as a one-line refrain, and the founding sin (refusing to listen) is still the whole indictment.

The McCormack booking saga gets its most vivid gloss on the feed: Brock allegedly “‘poked’ Peter McCormack on Facebook over 700 times” to secure a debate the Briton had already declined.

And when Brock is barred from X’s “For You” tab, Rod stages a solidarity he plainly does not feel — “I stand with @brockm against censorship… pardon Mike Brock” — even as Greaser lists him first among the accounts that have blocked him. On the wire, the antagonist is load-bearing: the Bugle needs Brock crashing out as badly as Brock needs a Trump post to crash out about.

Note on the name

The ASR is unreliable on him. Across the corpus he appears as Mike Dirac, Mike Rock, Mike Brown, Mike Brocke, Michael Brock, Mike Barack and Michael Rush; the aliases: carry these so a future name-match pass does not lose beats the way it would otherwise. Note also that the grouch he is repeatedly paired with, “Platter” / “clatter,” is Pledditor — a distinct person from Matt Odell, and never to be merged with him.

irl: Mike Brock is a real former Block / TBD executive who left the company and now writes the Substack Notes From the Circus — which is why the satire can treat his career pivot, and his essays, as established canon.
