Nico (@bitvolt7) is the host and founder of Simply Bitcoin, the daily Bitcoin news livestream. His canon opens as a study in terminal bullishness and closes with a promotion: by the end the show no longer treats him as a man but as an institution — the Pete Rizzo-tier baron the crew credits, without warmth, as the John Rockefeller of pleb slop, whose house style the entire engagement economy learned to copy.

Terminal bullishness

Nico’s canon opens in January 2023 on a Bloomberg interview: so certain that Bitcoin will defeat fiat that his principal anxiety is his own technological unemployment — “what am I going to do with my life once fiat is defeated.” When the host floated Bitcoin as a mere store of value, citing Michael Saylor‘s “digital gold” framing, Nico’s eyes could almost be seen turning into lasers as he answered: “It’s either Bitcoin or slavery and humanity will choose Bitcoin.”1

Simply Statism, and the hair problem

Nico is one of the show’s designated content-slop merchants, and two of his features are treated as ongoing liabilities: his politics and his hair.

At PODCONF-season conferences his hair is literally an advertising surface. Rod Palmer‘s scoop is a scheme of cypherpunk mini-spotlights that project sponsor logos onto Nico’s hair and the blonde streak of the promoter BTC Sessions — “onto the the blonde spot on B. T. C. Sessions’ hair” — guerrilla conference advertising that Greaser hopes will undermine the show’s own sponsor.2

The politics arrive when Nico drifts from orange-pilling into political philosophy and voting strategy, which lets Greaser resurface Simply Bitcoin’s fan-coined derogatory nickname: “there’s a derogatory nickname for Simply Bitcoin, which is simply statism.”3 Rod extends it: Nico sees himself as the Tim Pool of Bitcoin YouTube but is disqualified on hair grounds, since Tim Pool‘s authority runs through the beanie and Nico has no equivalent.3 The same charge of insufficient hardness recurs a year later, when a caught-sounding-compliant Nico earns the show’s literacy diagnosis: “It looks like Niko is not reading enough Bitcoin Bugle.”4

The interview chair

Nico’s other structural role is as the seat from which other people’s bits are launched — the interviewer whose guests supply the material. Greaser reads a Simply Bitcoin episode charting on Fountain in which “Nico from Simply Bitcoin” hosts Dennis Porter “live from Bitcoin Beach,” its title — “This US state is making Bitcoin part of its strategic treasury, Dennis Porter” — offered as a new bull-market indicator.5 The chair is also where the “tallow gut” defense is born: interviewing Jack Kruse, Nico occasions Kruse’s on-air claim that his weight is not calories but rendered fat — “fat because I eat too much. I just have tallow tallow gut.”6

He is a fixture of the scene’s social calendar too. Rod’s roll call of BTC Sessions’ 40th-birthday karaoke party at Pub Key names “Niko from Simply Bitcoin” among the attendees, alongside Mike Germano and a visibly drunk Opti.7 And in the show’s farm-system taxonomy of Bitcoin depravity, Nico is floated as a plausible invitee to the Swan sex cult, ranked “like the AAA baseball for ditty parties” — the minor leagues beneath the Diddy parties.8

The Rockefeller of slop

Nico’s arc resolves into a single elevated status: not a slop producer but slop’s founding magnate. Rod names the industry’s power structure outright — “Nico is like the John Rockefeller of plug slot” — the baron whose Simply Bitcoin format the whole slop economy imitates; Greaser adds that “he taught Swan how to” slop, calling it one of his roles in history.9 From there he becomes the show’s unit of measurement. Greaser sets Simply Bitcoin as the floor for macro commentary — he wants “something more insightful than what I would hear Nico and Opti say on Simply Bitcoin,” and would rather listen to Erin Redwing on astrology, because at least it is different.10 And when Mike Brock discovers that credentialed journalism is harder than posting, he is slotted into the bit’s canonical precedent list “similar to Nikko from Simply Bitcoin and Will Foxley.”11

Note on the name

The ASR renders him Niko and Nikko as often as “Nico”; both are in aliases: so a name-match scan does not lose him.
