Laser eyes are the ocular condition of the terminally bullish. In Bugleverse canon they are not an avatar filter but a live physiological event: during a January 2023 Bloomberg interview, when the host suggested Bitcoin might remain a mere store of value, “you could almost see Nico‘s eyes transform into lasers as his gaze met the host’s eyes” — immediately before he declared “It’s either Bitcoin or slavery and humanity will choose Bitcoin” (Simply Bitcoin Discusses Future Rebrand).

irl: “Laser eyes” was the 2021 #LaserRayUntil100K profile-picture trend, in which Bitcoiners photoshopped red laser eyes onto their avatars. The Bugle treats it as something that happens to your actual face.

The meme on X

The Bugleverse accounts have logged laser eyes less as a physiology and more as a social contract — one with a price target, an expiration date, colour regulations, and a border patrol. What follows is the archive’s reading of that contract.

The $100k covenant and its enforcement

The founding stipulation of #LaserRayUntil100K is that the eyes come off at $100k. Rod Palmer, posting as @rodpalmerhodl, appointed himself registrar of the deadline and its etiquette:

He then issued the grace period and its penalty in the same breath, filing laser eyes alongside seasonal décor:

The covenant did not survive contact with $100k. Rather than retire the eyes, Palmer moved the goalpost from a price to a corporate headcount:

Stolen valor and the colour code

If the eyes confer standing, the accounts police who may wear them. When asset manager Franklin Templeton adopted the look, the Bugle’s usual $1.5-trillion antagonist was ruled an impostor:

The valor is also spectral. Wrong colour reads as a different tribe entirely — a sumptuary law separating Bitcoin’s red from the Ethereum blue:

The anti-laser faction

Not every account submits. During the Ordinals hostilities, @bitcoin_bugle treated laser eyes as the insignia of an opposing army and proposed a counter-legion:

Recruitment, conscription, and the natural-born

The accounts also document laser eyes being conferred on the unwilling or the unaware. PODCONF claimed credit for a high-profile convert, annexing Elon Musk‘s avatar as a mission win:

Two threads argue the meme is on borrowed time. The political reading holds that a friendly administration retires the need for optical signalling altogether:
