Character
Rev Hodl
Rev Hodl is a permaculturist, meetup organizer, co-host (with Reid) of the Local Bitcoiners podcast, and the champion of the inaugural Nostr edition of Maxi Madness 2026 — won as a 16-seed: “a 16 seed won the tournament. Rev Hoddle, absolutely incredible guy” (victory spaces @ 43:18).
Maxi Madness
Entering the 2026 Nostr bracket (Primal zap-weighted polls) as the lowest seed, Rev Hodl edged Jack Dorsey in round one — “I eked it out by about 200 sats… Where did Jack Dorsey go? Why would I put my sats down for that guy?” (ISR 5 @ 16:52) — a result initially mis-displayed by Primal’s buggy polls and only confirmed after the tournament’s first recount disqualified Dorsey. In the semifinal he took down overall favorite Matt Odell in a poll that drew over a million sats — “The Meshedale was the group chat that took down Odell in the semifinals” — before soundly defeating the singer Noa Gruman in the final (ISR 5).
His victory doctrine, laid out on the Intellectual Silk Road, is permaculture applied to clout: three ethics (earth care, people care, non-extraction), “polyculture” layers of social capital (the Meshtadel group chat, local meetup homies, the wider Nostr community), “observe and interact” in round one, and holding local contacts in reserve until the finals. Voter incentives were tangible: “if you vote, max vote, you can get a jar of maple syrup from me, a pack of my cannabis seeds, a free ticket to Lake Satoshi, a bag of Otis Big Meyer coffee” (ISR 5 @ 5:15). He framed the real opponent as the betting market itself: “It wasn’t me versus Odell. It was me versus Predix… The Meshedel totally shut that prediction market down. Proved it wrong” (ISR 5 @ 15:17).
Ringmaster’s verdict: “Rev Huddl, that might have been the highlight of his entire life was this week… He was committed to taking home the w. He took it home” (ep. 103 @ 38:04). His run followed a low period roughly a year earlier, when Paper Bitcoin Summer “destroyed the meetups” and the Meshtadel staged an intervention to talk him off the ledge (ISR 5 @ 42:30).
