Richard On The Road Update From Scardust Tour
All annotations (21)
Richard Greaser files a field report from Atlanta while touring with Scardust. He accounts for a missed recording with Rod Palmer, surveys a run of wallet and service failures, takes the political and war temperature, announces a planned subscriber retrospective, and closes with booster correspondence and a visit to Rev Hodl.1
Chapters
On tour with Scardust
Greaser describes himself as an embedded journalist on Scardust’s first American tour, praises the musicians’ backstage professionalism, and invites listeners to their Chicago show.2 The tour is also a large part of why he and Palmer did not record the previous week; Greaser expects to resume regular work after it ends.3
A service layer having a week
Greaser presents the reported 4,000-Bitcoin Liquid hack as a First Turning rebuilding headwind, adding that Ethereum and Tron appear to offer easier stablecoin transfers than Liquid.4 He then says Trezor customer information has been exposed and advises throwaway email addresses and non-home delivery details for Bitcoin services.5 His conclusion extends beyond Bitcoin: commerce should be non-KYC where possible. He follows it with a report that Red Team says it warned Samson Mow of a vulnerability, while Mow dismissed the warning as AI psychosis.6
Summer ends; monitoring resumes
With wallet maintainers offering no guidance, Greaser declares White Goy Summer over after Labor Day.7 The Middle East war and rising fuel prices put him back on situation monitoring: wars lose their novelty after roughly two weeks, he argues, unless escalation or disrupted shipping restores attention.8
Lake Satoshi, custody and conviction
Lake Satoshi was enjoyable but overshadowed by the Coldcard incident, which Greaser treats as a where-were-you event.9 He says affected and unaffected attendees alike were rattled, with some people questioning self-custody and their Bitcoin conviction while the price trades sideways.10
Responsibility, selection and the energy map
Greaser attributes the broader uncertainty to a lack of accountability, integrity and personal responsibility, with older generations offloading spiralling debt onto younger ones.11 His countercase is that people who retain a stake in the future will produce distributed free-market solutions without waiting for a central authority.12 His forecast for the rest of the year is therefore not resolution but more kayfabe: influencers will sell the importance of the next political selection even though, in his view, it cannot settle the macro conditions.13
He reads radical candidates as a market response to political exhaustion. At a Jesse Welles concert, he says, people across persuasions looked tired of the national spectacle.14 A rodeo supplies the contrast: familiar neocon pageantry no longer carries the force it once did, and the present Iran war has not been explained to the public.15
Greaser says he and Palmer have discussed whether crisis politics is being used to clear regulatory obstacles for a global expansion and reshuffling of energy production amid data-centre demand. He expressly withholds a conclusive judgment.16 His practical conclusion is narrower: the Global South is worth watching, listeners should keep a level head, and the disorder may yet contain opportunity—including the long-promised Bitcoin bull market.17
The next series and the existing interfaces
Greaser announces a forthcoming paid-subscriber series reflecting on six years in the Bitcoin ecosystem, to be delivered as commentary from a real credentialed journalist.18 The series is planned rather than published.
A booster reports Fountain Premium errors and an inability to subscribe. Greaser says the service appears fixed but the show is reviewing its platform arrangements and apologizes for the late-stage situation.19 Minutes later he and Lahav are reported complaining about Primal; Fountain remains the one interface where boosts generally still post to Nostr, even while its subscription path fails.20
Greaser closes with a visit to Rev Hodl’s settlement: an in-person permaculture tour, lamb, maple syrup, stays and tours.21
Participants
- Richard Greaser — principal speaker and touring reporter.
- Rod Palmer — named as Greaser’s delayed co-host and conversation partner; the clipped S1 fragments do not confirm him as a speaker.
- Scardust — the touring band and reason for the scheduling disruption.
- Lahav — reported participant in the Primal complaint.
- Rev Hodl — booster and host of the settlement Greaser visits.
Arcs advanced
- V4V music empire — Greaser’s Scardust tour becomes a logistical force on the show itself.
- Behind the podcast — the missed recording receives an explanation and a subscriber retrospective enters development.
- Nobody uses Liquid and The revolution will not have good UX — hacks, exposure, wallet paralysis and platform errors arrive as one service-layer report.
- Hardware wallet wars — Trezor exposure, the Red Team–Mow dispute and the Coldcard aftershock widen the custody crisis.
- White Goy Summer and War Watch — the summer closes as monitoring resumes.
- Everything Is Fine and The 1st Turning Era — shaken conviction, debt and political exhaustion are answered with distributed solutions and a possible bull market.
- Elections Are Fake and Gay — the approaching selection is filed as a kayfabe market rather than a macro solution.
- Nostr Watch — Primal fails while Fountain remains an imperfect bridge.
