“Big Bitcoin” is the show’s conspiracy-theory coinage for a funded, corporate-developer establishment cast as the opposite number to the BIP 110 node-runner movement — a Bitcoin-flavored analogue to “big pharma” and “big defense.” Richard Greaser introduced the term live, mid-argument, while defending the idea that Bitcoin Core’s developers are funded by a small set of companies rather than by podcasters: “let’s talk about big — so so big Bitcoin is, like, you know, with big pharma[, big defense].”¹

The four horsemen

Rod Palmer catalogued Justin Bechler‘s target list for the term the same episode: Jack Mallers and Jack Dorsey as untouchable insiders Bechler would never name, and Matt Odell and Michael Saylor as the ones he was actually willing to call out.² Bechler’s habit of posting composite “shady bunch” images naming figures like Jameson Lopp and Stephan Livera fed the same framing.³

PODCONF claims the name

Three days after the coinage, PODCONF adopted the accusation as its own registered initiative. The launch claimed influence over Bitcoin media, conferences, podcasts, social platforms, politics, venture capital and institutional adoption, and reduced the decentralization question to a line: “Technically, yes. Operationally, there are meetings.”⁴ The hostile name for the establishment had become the establishment’s brand.

The account supplied the enforcement policy one day before the article: opponents would be deplatformed from podcasts, blackballed from conferences and have referral links cancelled, followed by the declaration “Big Bitcoin is in control. Expect Us.”⁵ The sequence resolves an old ambiguity in the PODCONF industrial complex: Big Bitcoin is not a second cartel competing with PODCONF. It is PODCONF’s umbrella identity for the cartel after expanding beyond podcasts and conferences.

Saylor answers

A week later, Michael Saylor made the term literal: he announced a named security consortium — BlackRock, Fidelity, Anchorage Digital, Coinbase, Blockstream, Galaxy, Ark Invest, Cathie Wood — framed as defending Bitcoin against future quantum-computing threats.⁶ Palmer read the move as Saylor turning on his own creation: “he’s the the architect of of modern Plebslop and AI slop… it’s Frankenstein’s monster.”⁷ A prominent BIP-110 defector, Need Creations, pivoted a second time to go “ride or die” with Big Bitcoin, though his enthusiasm was already visibly cooling within days.⁸

Palmer also framed the pro-Big-Bitcoin backlash as a protest-vote dynamic — comparing it to the 2024 election of Donald Trump: people weren’t embracing Big Bitcoin because they loved it, but because the plebs’ own behavior had made it the only palatable alternative.⁹

The operating departments

Once incorporated, Big Bitcoin announced expansion projects. PODCONF reported talks to buy distressed Coinkite Coldcard assets and relaunch them as BIGCARD®,¹⁰ ran a public selection for “The Voice of BIG BITCOIN®,”¹¹ and moved into namespace governance. Its .bitcoin initiative proposed that a committee decide who was sufficiently Bitcoin to use the domain, with applicants scored on infrastructure, code, business, education, conferences, maximalism and standing with the committee.¹² The announcement called the result “decentralized central planning.”

The panel question (August 2026)

Timmy Tether returns in episode 122 with a Plebs on Parade panel devoted to whether Big Bitcoin controls Bitcoin.¹³ The conspiracy coinage has therefore moved from host taxonomy into the show’s produced public-discussion format.

Resolution

Big Bitcoin outlasted its opposition and then institutionalized the victory. BIP 110’s mandatory signaling period began, the pro-BIP-110 chain forked off — and mined exactly two blocks before the fork was declared dead.¹⁴ PODCONF’s surviving brand then carried the same approval logic from nodes into media, hardware and names.
