Avi Burrah is the Nostr-native novelist the Bugleverse holds up as the friendly opposite of everything it accuses. Co-host of the value-for-value podcast Plebchain Radio, author of two Bitcoin-themed novels and a travel show, he is one of the show’s oldest allies — Greaser says Plebchain Radio was “the second podcast I ever went on” after founding the Bugle,1 and Avi is charter member of both the Bugle’s tiny paid-subscriber base and its Intellectual Silk Road. When the show finally sits him down for a long interview he turns out to hold most of its convictions and reject most of its tactics: he coins his own name for pleb slop, renounces the word “pleb” on air, and argues that Bitcoin will be adopted through stories rather than lectures.

Plebchain Radio and the Bugle’s ground game

Avi enters the record not as a person but as a sponsor bed. The Plebchain Radio ad read that runs in the show’s 15th episode carries the Bugle’s anti-PodConf posture directly: “A revolution in techno sovereignty is coming. This revolution won’t be PodConf approved,”2 the spot naming its co-hosts as “Quiet Warrior and Avi Burra.” From that base Plebchain Radio runs the Nostr counter-programming to Odell‘s dominance of the platform: their answer to the 40-hours-per-week grind meme is 40 good mornings per week — “when you do the forty hours per week hashtag, they do are doing the one it’s, forty good mornings per week.”3 Rod flags the hashtag approvingly and books a return favour on the spot, “we’re gonna talk about that a little bit more next week because I owe Adi Burra.”4

The relationship is the Bugle’s own origin story running in reverse: Plebchain Radio platformed Greaser before almost anyone, and the Bugle spends years paying it back in mentions.1

One of the premium few

Avi is also, literally, one of the people keeping the lights on. When Greaser institutes a weekly thank-you to the show’s paid subscribers, the entire list is four names long and Avi is one of them: “four right now. We’ve got Shadrach, Open Mic, Avi Burra, and Dave, Southside.”5 The revenue is glossed as “cigarette money,” the tone somewhere between gratitude and a prison economy.6 By the time the roll reaches six subscribers — one of whom has just quietly dropped off — Greaser uses Avi’s slot to advertise him: “Like what that guy’s doing over at Plug Chain Radio,” a “great member of the intellectual silk road.”7 He is still on the roll call more than a year later, folded into the recurring supporter list the show reads like a cast of regulars.8

He zaps as well as subscribes. On a live Fountain boost stream his comment lands the episode’s best callback — “rare to be on a live stream with three AI generated voices” — folding a flesh-and-blood guest into the running joke about the hosts’ synthetic voices.9

The Intellectual Silk Road interview (2025)

The full portrait arrives in Intellectual Silk Road episode 3, an hour-and-a-half sit-down built entirely around Avi’s thesis that storytelling, not argument, is the vector for adoption: “I think the vast majority of adoption is gonna happen through stories,” through film, art and music rather than “pedantic academic arguments” about distributed systems.10 The evidence he offers is his own output — two novels, 24 (2023) and its sequel July 18, which he describes as surrealist magic-realist mystery thrillers “with Bitcoin as a fairly core theme,”11 plus a Bourdain-styled Bitcoin travel show called Finding Home.12 Asked where his characters come from he diagnoses himself after the fact: the dead father’s ghost leading a young man to a dangerous secret is Hamlet, arrived at by subconscious osmosis rather than design.13 On the ecosystem’s live argument he stakes out a position — 24 used no AI at all, July 18 used Gemini for line editing as an idea-trigger he mostly declined to take.14

Influencer slop, and renouncing “pleb”

The interview is where Avi and the Bugle discover they are diagnosing the same disease under different names. Handed pleb slop, he offers his own coinage and accepts theirs: “you call it pep slop, Richard. I call it influencer slop. Right? Regurgitating” the same tired lines about NGU and the evil state.15 His name for the platforms that reward it is “attention casinos… where people gamble away their time,” fed on a formula of outrage and controversy.16 His account of why he is not himself a slopper is the episode’s “Awakenings” chapter — years inside the blockchain industry wrecked him intellectually until only Bitcoin made sense — and he insists “what I produce is not pleb slop.”17

Then the retcon the slop wars never quite absorb: Avi, whose show is named after the word, gives the etymology of “pleb” — three years ago it was “a silent cry of rebellion… a rebellion against influencer culture,” an earnest reading of “we are all Satoshi”18 — and then renounces it. “I’m happy to renounce the name the word pleb now. Unfortunately, it’s it’s in the name of the podcast,”19 blaming the Core-versus-Knots debate for muddying it past use. Greaser grants absolution: he is “not gonna cancel you for not changing the name.” When the Bugle later builds its case that “pleb” was always bad branding, Avi is the named friendly counterexample — “somebody that i i like and respect a lot who had a brand based on pleb.”20

Splitting from the doctrine

The episode is also where Avi declines to march. On the show’s own paper-Bitcoin narrative he splits the difference — “I like the meme. I thought it was funny. But no” — holding that ETFs and treasury companies are NGU in fiat terms, not sovereignty.21 Offered a middle path of grant-funded commons underwritten by “the Jack Dorsey’s of the world… modern day Medici,” he watches Greaser break it in real time (Dorsey’s companies all face regulation, so the patron is a boot waiting to land) and concedes the patron is “a massive single point of failure.”22 Even his AI paranoia is productive: after he reports ElevenLabs refused to clone Zelensky’s voice, Greaser converts the refusal into a new bit — a spook detector, where an AI protecting a voice proves the voice belongs to a CIA asset.23

His live ask is for the V4V music project: 21-sat zaps will never fund a band at the production level of Noa Gruman‘s Scardust, so he appeals on air for a whale to “step in and make this real.”24 His claim for Gruman is maximal — nightly before tens of thousands, she is the first Bitcoiner ever to stand in front of crowds that size, bigger rooms than Saylor‘s and, unlike Dorsey‘s all-hands stadiums, voluntary: “they have to be there, Richard.”25 Greaser’s parting verdict measures Finding Home against the incumbent — “Joe Nakamoto sucks… he’s eating penis cakes to get views on YouTube. Like, Avi doesn’t do that.”26 Along the way Greaser states, for once plainly, why the show reads boosts at all — “I like to show my guests that we do get fountain boost, because people need to see that custodial lightning works” — and waives the ritual for Avi, who already knows.27

Later

The alliance continues in the background. In mid-2026 Greaser works down a roll call crediting “Avi Burra’s ongoing Blockchain Radio and Finding Home series”28 alongside Fundamentals and Open Mike, and Avi remains on the subscriber list read in episode 106.8

Note on the name

The ASR renders Plebchain Radio’s co-host as Avi Burra, Avi Burro, Adi Burra and Offibura, and his show as Plug Chain Radio, Plep Chain Radio, Blockchain Radio, Pleip Chain Radio and Plug Jean. Every beat above was resolved from context; the aliases: exist so the next pass keeps him.
