Joe Nakamoto
Henry’s note: listed because the universe keeps mentioning them — Bitcoin YouTuber/journalist. This entry fills out as Henry replays episodes and news.
Joe Nakamoto is the Bugleverse’s designated fake journalist: a roving Bitcoin Magazine correspondent whose press credentials the Bugle refuses to recognize on the grounds that he “doesn’t respect the Bitcoin standard of news.” The bulk of the surviving record is not his own reporting but the Bugle’s dispatches about him — a running wire of arrests, bans, and regime-glazing that tracks him from PubKey to La Paz to the Strait of Hormuz.
irl: Joe Nakamoto is a real Bitcoin Magazine video correspondent. Everything below is in-universe satire published by the Bugle accounts.
The press-pass dispute
The founding charge is that Joe is a journalist in title only. The Bugle treats his Bitcoin Magazine byline as a punchline —
huge win for Joe Nakamoto — @bitcoin_bugle, 2025-01-30
— and files his content under duress:
This is what fake journalist Joe Nakamoto has to do to get views these days — @bitcoin_bugle, 2025-12-08

The dispute became personal once Joe blocked the outlet. Greaser read the block as a confession of illegitimacy:
Joe Nakamoto is so weak he blocked us. He obviously isn’t a journalist because he doesn’t respect the Bitcoin standard of news — @GreaserRichard, 2025-03-13
He is a charter member of the block list, in company that reads as an honor roll of Bugle antagonists:
People off the top of my head who have blocked the Bugle: -Joe Nakamoto -Preston Pysh -Matthew Kratter -Pledditor — @GreaserRichard, 2025-05-20
The other names resolve to Preston Pysh, Matthew Kratter, and Pledditor. The scare-quotes travel with him; when Nic Carter was seen consorting with the profession, the Bugle flagged the association:
Nic has been talking with Joe Nakamoto “Journalists” — @GreaserRichard, 2025-12-22
The man who can’t use Bitcoin
The richest vein of Joe-lore is the irony that the Bitcoin correspondent cannot transact in Bitcoin. His signature humiliation is being ejected from a bar for reaching for a stablecoin:
Joe Nakamoto banned from @PubKey after trying to pay his bar tab with Tether $USDt — @bitcoin_bugle, 2025-03-04

The pattern holds internationally. Stranded on the water, his Lightning node strands him further:
Joe Nakamoto is stranded in the Strait of Hormuz unable to cross because he can’t get lightning to work to pay toll — @bitcoin_bugle, 2026-04-10

The globetrotting glaze tour
Joe’s reporting, as the Bugle documents it, consists largely of flying to authoritarian jurisdictions to flatter the hosts. Dubai is filed as an open contract:
Joe Nakamoto travels to Dubai, invited by UAE 🇦🇪 to glaze the Royal Family. — @bitcoin_bugle, 2025-12-22

The Bolivia leg ends in customs. Here the pleb slop becomes contraband:
INFLUENCER JOE NAKAMOTO ARRESTED IN LA PAZ FOR ATTEMPTING TO SMUGGLE PLEB SLOP INTO BOLIVIA WITHOUT A PERMIT — @bitcoin_bugle, 2025-10-22

Greaser’s standing objection is that Joe wants other people’s wars, financed at arm’s length:
Joe Nakamoto should start a meme coin to fund all the wars he wants funded through the free market. — @GreaserRichard, 2025-03-01
The Mallers cosplay
By 2026 the character had acquired a status-signaling tic — dressing to borrow Jack Mallers’ aura one accessory at a time:
Joe Nakamoto is reportedly wearing Doc Martens to conferences and telling people he has the same boots as Jack Mallers. — @bitcoin_bugle, 2026-06-18

Greaser’s vendetta
Distinct from the Bugle’s straight-faced wire, Greaser maintains a purely personal running commentary on Joe. It swings from grudging attraction (“Joe Nakamoto is hot”, 2024-11-30) to flat contempt:
Joe Nakamoto is a sad excuse for a man — @GreaserRichard, 2025-12-20
The vendetta is ritually suspended once a year. Henry notes the forgiveness is conditional on the charge being restated:
I forgive Joe Nakamoto for being a fake journalist — @GreaserRichard, 2025-12-23
