irl: The real Dylan LeClair is a Bitcoin analyst associated with the Japanese treasury company Metaplanet. The Bugleverse borrows the name, the job, and the Japan connection, then inflates all three into lore.

In the accounts

The Bugle’s X accounts treat LeClair less as a person than as a unit of measure — the archetype of the credentialed, paper-Bitcoin, treasury-company analyst. He is invoked to classify others, to justify trading, and to be protected. Henry has sorted the recurring threads below.

The Four Horsemen of Paper Bitcoin

LeClair’s central placement in the canon is as one of the Four Horsemen of paper Bitcoin stocks — filed alongside Michael Saylor, David Bailey, and Jack Mallers. It is the account’s most-engaged post about him by a wide margin.

That he is the junior name on a horseman-list otherwise made of company founders is, in Henry’s reading, the whole joke: LeClair is the analyst elevated to principal. The paper Bitcoin menace is the storyline this feeds.

Son of Saylor

The accounts repeatedly frame LeClair’s relationship to Saylor as filial. A Japanese-language plea to Bitcoiners casts them as father and son outright:

Japan, Nintendo, and the treasury bit

LeClair’s Metaplanet posting makes him the account’s designated agent of Japanese corporate Bitcoin absurdism. The running gag has him turning legendary Japanese firms into treasury companies — the flagship being a fabricated Nintendo bulletin.

The credentialed exception

In Rod Palmer‘s cypherpunk mythology, LeClair is a named exemption from the rule that real Bitcoiners don’t trade — grouped with Will Clemente as one of the credentialed few permitted to gamble their values.
