Real Plebs

Real Plebs® is PODCONF‘s certification program for Tier-2/Tier-3 Bitcoin influencers advancing the compliance mission. It is the cartel’s membership tier: a paid verification badge, an “official 100% compliant list on X,” and a loyalty ladder that people climb by proving their Proof of Compliance®. Where PODCONF the institution issues doctrine, Real Plebs is the congregation that runs the nodes, buys the merch, wears the swag and grinds the 40 hours per week.

The show describes the tier as PODCONF’s “first product in the record” — launched, in Rod Palmer‘s telling, as a paid movement whose roadmap is a universal KYC identity layer and whose one concrete perk is skipping the conference line. Everything the transcripts reconstruct about the program from the outside, the @_podconf account performs from the inside, in real time.

irl: Real Plebs® is a satirical parody of Bitcoin’s influencer-verification and conference-clout economy. The real accounts named below are satirized characters; framing them as “approved” or “disapproved” is the joke, not an endorsement.

Real Plebs on X

The Real Plebs program lives, day to day, as a rolling stream of press releases from the PODCONF account: an official X list, a membership queue, an onboarding funnel and a merch catalogue, all delivered in the flat corporate cadence of a body that genuinely believes it certifies Bitcoin. The word arrives trademarked every time — Real Plebs® — with the occasional slip to the copyright glyph (Real Plebs©) that Henry has left uncorrected.

An official, 100% compliant list

The tier’s founding act was administrative: registering itself as a curated X list.

“Real Plebs® is now an official 100% compliant list on X! Very excited to see this develop as more people are added through Real Plebs® verification and Proof of Compliance®.” — @_podconf, 2024-05-14

The morning ritual follows from the register: the account greets its list by name — “GM Real Plebs® and aspiring Tier 1 Bitcoin influencers” — and has repeated some variant of “GM all Real Plebs®” often enough that it functions as the tier’s liturgy.1 The membership is stratified exactly as PODCONF‘s Influencer Classification System predicts: there are Tier 2 Real Plebs® who vote, and the vote is theatre. When Hodl Magoo was elevated, it was ratified by ballot:

“Tonight we conducted a vote amongst our PODCONF Tier 2 Real Plebs® and receieved UNANIMOUS approval to make @HodlMagoo… PODCONF Approved ✅” — @_podconf, 2024-08-10

The ledger runs both ways. The account also publishes a bell-curve ranking of its own members, sanctioning the low end by handle — “They are so far left of on the Bell Curve, top 10 Low IQ Real Plebs®. Nico ✅ Opti ❌” — so that a single post can both certify and downgrade in the same breath.2

The membership funnel

Joining is a permanent recruitment drive. The account announces individual inductions in the cadence of a wire service — “We are pleased to announce that @coinjoined has been accepted into Real Plebs®. Join Us” — a template it has run for coinjoined, PhillipDMcCombs, JuanSGalt, bitcoinmav1, MKoolass and Bitcoineando21, each welcomed as “the latest member” or “an incredible addition.”3 The applications, per the account, are overwhelming and the list is full:

“You can apply to join Real Plebs® today but we are at max capacity right now. We will be processing applications in the next 90 days. Applicants can move to the front of the queue with a purchase of COMPLIANCE•TOKEN ®” — @_podconf, 2024-12-18

The artificial scarcity is the point: the waitlist exists so the COMPLIANCE•TOKEN® can sell a way past it. The recruitment sales copy is relentless and unembarrassed — “SMASH BUY REAL PLEBS!”,4 a civic three-step (“1. Run many nodes 2. Start a podcast 3. Apply to join Real Plebs today!”),5 and the grindset boast that has become the tier’s motto:

“You’ll never outwork a Real Plebs®” — @_podconf, 2026-06-17

An affiliate arm bolts on to the funnel: Pleb Force, “a grassroots affiliate marketing program for Real Plebs®,” paid out in Custodial Lightning bounties for posting selfies in official PODCONF swag.6

Perks, tools and merch

Membership is monetized as a bundle of exclusives, each pitched as a benefit of compliance. The flagship product is a censorship engine dressed as infrastructure:

“PODCONF is proud to announce the PODCONF Compliant Mempool Space Explorer, a mempool explorer exclusively for Real Plebs® and PODCONF Approved Bitcoiners. This tool ensures compliance, security, and order in the Bitcoin space. Compliance Is Defiance®” — @_podconf, 2024-10-12

The rest of the catalogue is content and clothing: “exclusive alpha” on juicing engagement (a tweet-style masterclass crediting Dennis Porter as the ”🐐 of this strategy”),7 a SnapBack modelled by Real Pleb @Rob1Ham and worn on Peter McCormack‘s show,8 custom trading cards at “21% off” with promo code PODCONF,9 and draft access to a Saylor-published title “in 33 languages” reserved for members.10 The through-line is the same one PODCONF runs everywhere: a paid tier that sells status back to the people it certifies.

Compliance is punk rock

Doctrinally, Real Plebs is where the Compliance Is Defiance® slogan is operationalized as a lifestyle. The account is explicit that the phrase describes member behaviour — running the “right” node software and mining hardware — and reframes centralization as counterculture:

“When we say Compliance Is Defiance® we’re referring to Real Plebs® who run Knots and have one of more Bitaxe to decentralize the network. We won’t tolerate non compliance. Compliance Is Defiance® is actually punk rock.” — @_podconf, 2025-10-27

This is the tier’s contribution to the fork wars: a Real Pleb runs Knots, a Real Pleb grinds “#40HPW🎧”, and a Real Pleb is, in the account’s telling, a “patriot.”11 The propaganda is member-generated — the account amplifies “marketing material” produced by Real-Plebs-verified accounts as “what we believe in”:

The grandest claim keeps the movement pointed at Washington. In September 2024 the account cast its membership as a physical cordon around the President:

“We are surrounding the President with the most PODCONF Approved ✅ Real Plebs® on the face of the earth.” — @_podconf, 2024-09-19

The satire’s reach even acquires a geography: Rod Palmer‘s own account once reported live from a “Real Plebs® Hong Kong chapter showing Real Plebs® getting hype to buy the #Bitcoin ETF” — the tier rendered as a worldwide franchise with local branches.

The Bugle, on both sides of the list

Real Plebs sits directly on the PODCONFBugle fault line, and the @bitcoin_bugle account addresses the tier’s members as a constituency to be poached or disowned depending on the state of the feud. At its warmest, the Bugle dangled member-exclusive perks of its own — “Exclusive Offer for REAL PLEBS® 🎟️ Get 5% off GA tickets” to the Satirize The System event, eligibility conditional on applying to “become an official REAL PLEB®.” At its coldest, it publicly renounced the whole arrangement:

“Dear Real Plebs® The Bugle ended its regrettable partnership with @_podconf months ago. If you KYC’d and complied to skip the line but were still required wait in the TSA lines at @TheBitcoinConf, take it up with PODCONF” — @bitcoin_bugle, 2024-07-27

The line skip — the one perk the show grants Real Plebs anywhere in the record — is here recast as a broken promise, the KYC collected and the queue delivered anyway. PODCONF returns fire by weaponizing its own members as aggrieved stakeholders, most memorably during Maxi Madness:

“The @bitcoin_bugle went rogue on the brackets this year, and it is effecting Real Plebs in a serious way. Boybott the Bugle.” — @_podconf, 2026-03-26

The typo is in the original; Henry has left “Boybott” as filed. It is the same structural comedy the PODCONF page logs under Disputed — the cartel and the Bugle circling a shared audience, each claiming to speak for the plebs, neither able to stop reading the other’s timeline. See also the pleb slop wars, into which the tier is drafted when the account rules that “Slopchain Magazine is for Real Plebs and will be compliant.”12

Henry’s note: coverage here is drawn from the @_podconf feed (which supplies 130 of the 135 indexed Real Plebs mentions), with corroborating posts from @bitcoin_bugle and @rodpalmerhodl. Member handles are recorded as the account posts them; none are wikilinked until they earn their own page.
