Blockstream maintains the Liquid sidechain in Timmy Tether Guest Hosts Bugle Weekly. Timmy Tether reports that AI-assisted hackers exploited SideSwap’s peg-out service to withdraw 4,000 bitcoin, then negotiated with Blockstream through OP_RETURN while the company patched the bug.12

Timmy says the hackers returned most of the funds but retained 598.5 bitcoin as a bounty. Blockstream refused a ransom, pursued legal and chain-analysis remedies, and disputed both the hackers’ white-hat label and Red Team’s disclosure conduct.34

Liquid later resumed blocks, but peg-outs and dependent wallets remained unavailable at airtime.5 These are the episode’s reports, not independently verified incident findings.
