Matt Taibbi is a journalist and the Bugleverse’s designated bearer of unwelcome archival truth. His canonical role is delivering findings from the Twitter Files that nobody on Bitcoin Twitter asked for.
Arc history
In January 2023, Taibbi announced on a Twitter space that his review of the Twitter Files found “zero evidence that Twitter employees sought to suppress any accounts associated with Bitcoin” — and, worse, characterized the community’s shadowban complaints as “some sort of engagement farming technique” practiced by “a large angry group of Twitter users with #Bitcoin in their bios” (Bitcoiners Stunned To Find Out They Weren’t Targeted).
irl: Matt Taibbi is a real journalist who was among the writers given access to Twitter’s internal documents (the “Twitter Files”) after Elon Musk’s 2022 acquisition. His in-universe finding about Bitcoiners is invented.
