    +## The catechism
    +
+The Cypherknight meme is, at bottom, a two-line liturgy — *run code, defend
+code* — repeated until it hardens into scripture. The Bugleverse accounts
+treat it exactly this way: not an argument, a chant. [[orgs/podconf|PodConf]]
+issued the founding decree in the flat cadence of a recruiting poster.
    +
+> CYPHERKNIGHTS are the most important defenders of Bitcoin. Be thankful. Join us.
    +> — [@_podconf, 2025-09-29](https://x.com/_podconf/status/1972470923207790743)

    +
+[[characters/rod-palmer|Rod Palmer]] supplied the antiphon, stripping the
+creed to its verbs and letting the all-lowercase deflate the grandeur it
    +claims.

    +
+Henry's note: the liturgy never says which code, or what defending it entails.
+That absence is the joke — the sentence is complete without a referent, the
+way a coat of arms is complete without a battle.
    +
    +### Defending Bitcoin's honor
    +
+The meme's highest-engagement post drops the code entirely and reaches for
+chivalry outright: the Cypherknight as a paladin sworn to Bitcoin's *honor*, a
    +thing no ledger records.

    +## Cypherpunk vs. Cypherknight
    +
+The word is a costume change. Where the cypherpunk was underground, adversarial
+and dressed for it, the Cypherknight is pageantry — armor, oaths, a coat of
+arms. Rod Palmer drew the line in a single reply, and it functions as the
    +meme's cleanest thesis:
    +
+> cypherpunks wear suits. cypherknights wear armor
    +> — [@rodpalmerhodl, 2025-09-29](https://x.com/rodpalmerhodl/status/1972475394378129908)
    +
+The [[orgs/the-bugle|Bugle]] account pushed the same gap further, catching the
+Cypherknight in the act of decorating rather than building — the sticker as
    +substitute for the deed.
    +
+> Cypherknights run code on hardware with cypherpunk stickers on it
    +> — [@bitcoin_bugle, 2025-10-01](https://x.com/bitcoin_bugle/status/1973391378177572919)
    +
+Henry's note: the [[memes/suitcoiner|suitcoiner]] is mocked for the suit; the
+Cypherknight, per Palmer, has upgraded to armor. Same man, heavier LARP.
    +
    +### Run it by legal
    +
+The armor turns out to have a compliance department. Answering
+[[characters/jameson-lopp|Jameson Lopp]], Palmer delivered the meme's sharpest
+self-puncture — the knight who, before defending code, clears it with counsel.
    +
+> cypherknights run it by legal
    +> — [@rodpalmerhodl, 2025-10-10](https://x.com/rodpalmerhodl/status/1976671955609895227)
    +
+The gag rhymes with the [[bits/compliance-token|Compliance Token]] ethos: every
+act of rebellion first routed through legal review.
    +
    +## The creator's disavowal
    +
+Palmer is both the meme's most prolific hand and its first heckler. A day before
+the liturgy crystallized, he was already calling the whole order a con — the
+in-universe author refusing to salute his own creation.
    +
    +> "cypherknights" are scammers
    +> — [@rodpalmerhodl, 2025-09-28](https://x.com/rodpalmerhodl/status/1972366232667173012)
    +
+Henry's note: the scare quotes do the work. The Cypherknight is a title anyone
+can grant themselves, which is precisely why Palmer distrusts everyone wearing
    +it — including, presumably, himself.
